There are many ways to be part of the snooker and billiards community in NSW - both on and off the table.
Whether you're interested in playing, officiating, volunteering or simply supporting the sport, Snooker & Billiards NSW welcomes your involvement. Here's how you can take part.
Volunteer with Us
Snooker & Billiards NSW welcomes volunteers from all backgrounds and is committed to encouraging diversity, especially in leadership and governance. You don’t need to be a player — just someone willing to contribute to the sport. There are plenty of ways to contribute, including:
Joining a sub-committee — from juniors and coaching, to finance, governance, or tournament support.
Joining the Board of Directors — we currently have a vacancy and welcome expressions of interest. In line with our Gender Equity in Governance Policy, we strongly encourage women to apply.
Become a Referee
Referees play a key role in upholding fairness and professionalism in our sport. SBNSW supports new and experienced referees through a clear development pathway, and we actively encourage diverse participation at all levels of officiating. No prior experience is needed — just a strong understanding of the game, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to fair play.
Referee Development Includes:
Clear pathways for Level 1 to Level 3 ABSC referee accreditation
Support with training, assessment and mentoring
Opportunities to officiate at local, state and national events
Access to rules updates and referee resources.
Become a Coach
We’re seeking expressions of interest for upcoming Interim Coaching Courses to support Junior Hub programs across NSW. The one-day course is based on the WPBSA Level 1 framework and includes:
Coaching responsibilities and behaviour
Core techniques: stance, grip, bridge, cue delivery
How to deliver the White to Black junior development program
You must hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) to participate. The course is free and provides 6-month interim accreditation, with a full WPBSA course to follow.
SBNSW encourages participation from a wide range of people and is committed to fostering diversity in coaching.
Juniors & Women’s Participation
Snooker and billiards are for everyone, and SBNSW is committed to increasing participation among juniors, women, and girls. We actively support this through:
Dedicated event categories tailored for juniors and women, ensuring more opportunities to compete and excel
A range of education and player support resources to help individuals develop their skills and confidence
Promoting safe, inclusive, and welcoming environments at clubs where everyone can enjoy the game
Our Junior Hubs program, designed to nurture and develop young talent across the state
Whether you’re a club looking to grow participation or a player eager to get involved, we’d love to hear from you.
Disability Inclusion
We are committed to making snooker and billiards accessible to everyone, including individuals living with disability. While our disability program is still in its early stages, we are dedicated to growing the sector and creating inclusive environments where all players can enjoy, learn, and grow in the game, whether socially, competitively, or through structured development pathways.
If you're living with disability or part of an organisation looking to get involved, we’d love to hear from you!
