Adam Fitzgerald On Fire

The 2012 NSW State ‘Minor’ Snooker Championship has been won by Adam Fitzgerald with a convincing 4-2 Final victory over Ying Jin. Full results can be accessed separately.

Staged at Club Toukley RSL on 28th & 29th April, the event attracted a good field of 46 entrants to the popular Central Coast venue which has now been successfully involved in this event via hosting and sponsorship for the past 2 years. Many thanks to club management and the Board of Directors for their continued support and assistance to the BSA NSW.

The good crowd of spectators in attendance throughout the entire weekend was treated to some very entertaining snooker. This was never more evident than in the Final which was a 95 minute spectacle that will long be remembered by those fortunate to witness it. Both players played a free-flowing game and were confident in their ability to go for their shots whenever they could. High breaks may not have been a feature, but the sheer potting ability of both players was simply outstanding and had the crowd buzzing.

Fitzgerald started the game at a frantic pace, racing to a 3-0 lead inside 45 minutes and leaving many in the crowd shaking their heads in disbelief. But Jin had been very solid all weekend and was not about to be overshadowed, seizing his opportunities in the 4th and 5th frames with some crisp potting displays of his own. With the game now delicately poised at 3- 2 it was Fitzgerald who opened up an early lead in the 6th frame before hitting top gear and closing out the game with an excellent break of 53.

It was a popular win for the Central Coast local, who has long been regarded as one of the most talented players in our sport since his Junior days. Perhaps this long-awaited breakthrough victory will now prove the catalyst to him fulfilling his undoubted potential – as it did with so many other well-known names now appearing on the State Minor Snooker perpetual trophy.

Runner-up Ying Jin also put in an exceptional performance and is a player to watch in the future. As a past State Minor semi-finalist and now runner-up, his turn in the winner’s spotlight may not be too far off.

Many thanks once again to Club Toukley RSL and also the players, referees and spectators who contributed.
