This year’s NSW STATE 6 Red Minors was held at Blacktown Workers Club for the first time, Blacktown will host this event for another 2 years. Congratulations to Shannon Dixon who took the Title defeating 5 – 0 from Tom Shen. Video of the final can be seen on my Facebook page, the BSANSW will have a YouTube Channel soon.
And a big thank you to the club for putting a $1000 towards this year’s tournament and to the Snooker club crew again for their incredible help and support. 44 players entered this year compared to 24 last year, as this event becomes a permanent fixture on the calendar.
Blacktown has 7 tables although only 6 were used. 4 tables will be re-covered for this year’s State Snooker Titles on the 4th & 5th June.
The 44 players were split into 11 groups of 4 playing, with games being best of 5, with the top 2 players in each group progressing to the final 22 knockout stage on Sunday. There were a couple of new young players who entered including Denzel Nicholson and Kuki Zhan, Kuki qualified for the knockout stage, and of course our regular core of players.
Shannon had a tough last 16 game against John Bowkett with both players having several chances in the final frame; John is a player to watch. Shannon then cruised through 4-0 in the quarters against Scott Boyd. Scott was unlucky as his opponent had to forfeit his last 16 game with a severe migraine and hadn’t had a game yet, Scott nearly cleared to steal the third frame, but 3 frames ahead Shannon closed out with a nice 54 in the last. Shannon defeated Steve Jay in the semi 5-2 fairly comfortably, Steve played well to defeat Terry Jennar 4-3 in the quarters in a very entertaining high quality Game. Terry was looking like he could go all the way. Tom while getting through his semi against Gary Mares 5-2, had a tougher run defeating Mark Boyd 4-0 in the last 22, but David Liu & Chris Baker took Tom to the final frame in the last 16 & quarters. Gary had a great tournament defeating a much improved Jeff Middleton 4-2 in the last 16 and an Inform David Hunter 4-2.
Thank you to all the players for entering who continue to support our great game, thank you to David Battensby for coming in early each day to prepare the tables . Thank you again to Stuart Tait and Neville Moore for their tireless efforts.
