Farebrother Wins 2014 NSW Masters Snooker

The 2014 NSW State Masters, held at Club Marconi was contested by a field of 20 runners.

In the group stages, it was pretty clear who was qualifying through their group in the top position. Some excellent snooker was played all round.

Joe Minici, Richard Peric, Roger Farebrother and Glen Wilkinson all going through as top seeds without a loss.As well as everyone played, the stand out in group stages was Roger Farebrother who pretty much damaged allof his opponents. He took the first few frames of the day with breaks of 54, 62, 70 and 81.

With 16 people qualifying through to the knock out stage we were in for some exciting snooker.Joe minici, the 2013 Masters champion struggled through all of his knock out stage matches, winning all of the games up untill the final with a 3-2 score line.

In the semi finals against Richard Peric, scores were locked at 2-2 and Richard had a lead of 25 with only 25 remaining. Joe played a poor safety shot and left the green close to the bottom pocket, but had a good white touching top rail. Richard takes on the green and with some bad luck hits the black and knocks it in, foul 7 to Joe. After a few safety shots, Joe took out the match with a few good pots to reach his 3rd state final in a row.

A quick mention to Richard who 1 year ago started to play again after many years, is now showing some great character and getting some awesome results.

In the other semi final Roger Farebrother proved too strong for Glen Wilkinson beating him 3 frames to 1.

The final, which was played as a best of 7 between Joe Minici and Roger Farebrother, proved to be a great quality final. With more than 30 people watching the final, Club Marconi's Roger Farebrother proved too strong for a Joe. Joe was not playing as well all weekend, but showed his class the whole tournament to scrape through his matches. Eventually Roger taking out the title with a 4-1 win. Roger also claimed the tournament high break with a lovely 81.
