Message from ABSC on Covid 19 Virus

As everyone would be aware there is a significant level of focus about the COVID-19 virus. Confirmed infections around Australia is still low however we need to remain diligent and respond accordingly to advice stemming from Government where applicable. The news is currently suggesting that larger scale events be cancelled or postponed. At this point there is no directive from the ABSC to affiliate states to cancel or postpone events. However, we are asking the Snooker and Billiards communities across the country to follow some actions as outlined below:

- It is recommended that people reduce personal contact with others whilst competing at events.

- Players and officials are also reminded to observe good hand hygiene, and to cover all coughs and sneezes.

- If two players wish to engage in a shake that will be up to them, but nobody should be offended by a refusal – it is simply following the advice that has been given by health authorities.

- If you are sick with flu-like symptoms, stay at home. Penalties for withdrawing on the day of a tournament will be waived if you need to self-isolate.

- The ABSC recommends affiliates coordinating events to forego one of the traditions of Billiards & Snooker – the handshake. It is written into the Code of Conduct for the game to shake hands before and after a match, but for the time being it will not be a requirement at any tournament. If two players wish to engage in a shake that will be up to them, but nobody should be offended by a refusal – it is simply following the advice that has been given by health authorities.

- The ABSC together with State Affiliates will continue to collaborate on this matter with the clubs and venues hosting competitions.

Thank you for reading this message. The health and well being of our Snooker and Billiards community at this time is our number one priority.
